A drifter who was convicted of killing seven people in a series of Tennessee fast-food robberies in 1997 died Friday at a Nashville hospital.

Paul Dennis Reid, 55, was pronounced dead at Nashville General Hospital at Meharry, the state Department of Corrections said.

Department spokeswoman Dorinda Carter said the cause of death would be determined by the state medical examiner's office.

Reid was sentenced to death for the slayings of seven people at fast-food restaurants in Nashville and Clarksville, most of them teenagers.
