DETROIT — A prosecutor says a Detroit police officer made critical errors during a raid that led to the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old girl.
Jurors have heard opening statements Monday in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Joseph Weekley. There's no dispute that he fired his gun, striking Aiyana Stanley-Jones in 2010.
Assistant prosecutor Rob Moran says Weekley hesitated at the door instead of charging into the house to hunt for a murder suspect after a stun grenade was fired inside. Moran says an officer in that situation isn't supposed to stop.
